Mid-century drives, and the widening question

Freeze-thaw, salt and a short working season

Central Ohio winters are wet and oscillating rather than brutally cold, which is worse for pavement than a hard sustained freeze. The temperature crosses 32 degrees dozens of times in a single winter, and every crossing is water getting into a crack, freezing, widening it, thawing and running deeper.
